South Park Review [0702.1999]

I caught the the South Park movie last night. Definitely the most hilarious movie I've ever seen. Not for the faint of heart, though - this thing is incredibly offensive.

It opens with the South Park gang heading off to see a "foreign film from Canada" - the new Terrance and Phillip movie. Everyone is singing and dancing merrily (yes, it's a musical - and the score rocks) until they reach the theater, and are not allowed in. But the kids scam their way inside, and are treated to three hours of fart jokes and cursing.

As Cartman says in the trailers, the movie has warped their fragile little minds. The boys can't help but swear, and when they bring their newfound vocabulary to class, it leads to a string of actions including psychiatric rehabillitation (m'kay), parent meetings, behavior modification implants, a full scale war on Canada, and of course, Satan and Saddam Huessein rising to absolute power over all things on Earth.

Along the way, we're treated to a fantastic soundtrack, including such performers as Terrence and Phillip ("Uncle Fucker"), Big Gay Al ("I'm Super -- Thanks for Asking"), Satan (a lovely little-mermaid-esque piece about the world up above), Cartman (a 'round the world rendition of the classic "Kyle's Mom's a Bitch"), and Stan, Kyle, and Cartman together for the inspirational "What would Brian Boytano Do?"

The absolute best part of the whole movie is a thirty second cameo by a noted software empire badguy. I won't say more than that, but a good third of the audience was cheering.

Just be careful you hold on to your ticket stub. At the theater I went to, they checked them twice before you could get inside the theater. I guess they don't want it warping our kids' fragile little minds.

Anyway, go see it.
