l/s tape results [0522.1999]

posted to mindlist

I mentioned in last post that I'm working on a little self-help tape to use with my mind machine. Well, I recorded it earlier.. and also recorded an old version of MLF da Babe.. Then I listened to both. Here's what I learned:

  1. I talked way too fast! Part of my script is a detailed description of a future romantic encounter. I thought I was reading at a reasonably slow rate, but when I listened to it, it went by so fast that it hardly seemed enjoyable at all! Perhaps I needed to add more detail, or perhaps I just needed to slow down.
  2. The mic was too close. It picked up the sound of my breathing out on just about every word, which was distracting.
  3. Jobet's trance induction was much more effective than my own. He took five paragraphs to induce a relaxed state, where I tried to get by with two or three sentences. The extra length worked despite the speed at which I was reading.
  4. It seems like it's important to say things more than once, or in different ways, or simply put in a lot of detail. The very nature of trance means that a person won't consciously hear everything you've recorded in one sitting.. the mind drifts.. Repetition is good stuff anyway.
  5. I did one bit that was actually a lot of fun: a guided visualization of a crowd scene.. I had the listener (me) walk through the crowd, notice a beautiful woman, and immediately say something. (a compliment, hello, whatever).. The intent is to cultivate an automatic response through practice.. I had the tape lead me through this three times. This was a great section, and I think it could be expanded considerably with more repetitions and scenarios, perhaps adding more and more to it each time.
  6. After that section, I had some language about noticing/configuring my timeline, then taking the feeling flirting gave me, and letting that spread out into my future timeline. The language had no "NLP" or "Ericksonian" enhancements... It was just me talking. And it was actually quite powerful.
  7. This is the most important one.. By making my own tape with my own languaging, I'm forcing myself to actually use all the skills I've learned. Plus, writing, recording, and then listening, gave me three completely different perspectives on the script. I was surprised, actually, how different it sounded when I was actually listening to it. Also, the three phases probablly helped drill the message in. It was easy, and I could tell immediately where I had room for improvement.
  8. In coming out of trance, I added specific instructions and actions to the tape. Not only did I open my eyes and stretch.. I included a command to get up, go look in the mirror, and give a compliment to an imaginary lady... This gave me a really confident feeling for some reason.. (I didn't actually get up and do this, because MLF was on the same tape right afterwards and I was still listening. But it was almost like an immediate future pace.. "we're through, but take the stuff you've learned and imagine trying it on ten seconds from now after you've gotten up..." that kind of thing..)

Anyway, I highly recommend this.. Even though my tape is kind of primitive (very little hypnotic languaging... talking too fast.. poor sound quality..) I think I've learned a lot from it, and the next time around it'll be even better. So, if you have an evening or two free in the next week, why not make your own short tape?
