a python puzzle

Hmmm. I'm offering a prize for the first person to solve this python puzzle. Here's a hint. Can you figure it out? :)

Update: Someone solved it less than half an hour later. Click "next message" on that page for the answer.

out two bucks

Well, Zach finally got some cash out of me. I overslept by half an hour this morning, so I had to pay up. Basically, I had trouble sleeping last night, so I got up, answered some mail, and tried having a conversation in an Esperanto chatroom. I think I managed to piece together four or five whole sentences, and thanks to an online dictionary, I actually understood most of what went on.

Krokodili means to be like a crocodile. This is slang for speaking your native language among esperantists. The rule is "ne krokodilu!" - don't do it. Anyway, Mi lernas esperanton tute rapide, and without really spending that much time on it.

Earlier last night, after answering email all day and then cranking out the XSLT template system for rantelope, my logical brain was burnt out. Rather than vegging in front of the TV, I just switched gears. I hooked up my music keyboard and worked through the first five lessons in a piano book. The keyboard has graphical metronome that says what beat its on, which really helped with timing notes. Usually I have a lot of trouble keeping count. It was a lot of fun and farily a refreshing change from working all day. I might reinstall the MIDI "teach yourself piano" software soon.

Weight-wise, I'm at 245 pounds, down 15 from my high of 260 last month. I consulted with Zach this morning, and once I get my paycheck, I'm going to buy a couple supplements: an ephedrine-free fat burner, and a whey protein supplement. I'm also going to start adding intervals to my cardio training: alternating between jogging and walking when I go up the mountain.

Business is great. Saturday, cornerhost got mentioned in an "internet tips" newsletter, so I've had WAY more email than usual the past two days. Quite a few signups, too, so I'm not complaining. I still haven't topped my sales for July (my best month ever), but I'm close, and there's five days left. On the other hand, with my collections efforts and the new billing cycle (sending statements every night), I've actually had more money come in from payments than any month before. I'm still making less than half what I made as a programmer, and I've still got a massive amount debt, but I really think this is the turning point. It's all downhill from here.

That's pretty much all that's going on around here. Time to go buy groceries and get back to work. :)
