30 below

I just went with a friend to see 30 Below, a series of one act plays about life in generation x, put on by an ensemble group called Out of Hand Theater. It was actually quite a bit of fun. When you walk in, the cast is there, dressed up like the Men in Black, examining everyone's cellphones and calling security at random. At least one girl got frisked twice, and a lady in my row got reprimanded for waving to her friend. We were then instructed to turn on our cellphones and, should anyone's phone ring, to be sure to answer it just as if we were at home, since it might be an important call.

Over the course of the evening, we learned about the dangers of women's toilet seats, learned how to act like a flaming drama queen or a rabid bull dyke, were taught a magical method for picking up chicks, and discovered the horror of working at Harris Teeter.

30 Below has a few serious parts (one play in particular about a camera man was downright grim) but mostly the show was hillarious. Go see it, but hurry: there are only two more nights. Tickets are $15 from 7 Stages in Little Five Points.
