charity

The admission for Seth's seminar is a big donation to Dos Margaritas. They're a small group working to help the people and rainforests of Chile.

I haven't had money to donate to charity in a long time. Even back when I had money, it went right into my business. But that's about to change. I expect Cornerhost to turn a profit by Janurary. I really haven't thought about what I'm going to do with the money. Over the next few months, some of it will go to my legal team. Some will go to my credit cards. Some will go to marketing and into software development... But before I start budgeting away the whole enchilada, I want to make sure I'm giving away at least $500 each month.

I'm just not sure who to send it to. I owe Bill Phillips a donation to the Make a Wish Foundation. And I promised myself a long time ago that I'd someday give something back to Eugene Free Net.

I'm a subscription business. Maybe I should set up recurring donations to different organizations... Every time I raise my cashflow, I can add another donation. I would like to focus on education, though... Maybe I should start with Summerbridge Atlanta. The director is a really great guy named Keno Sadler. Other than an email I sent when I first moved here, I haven't talked to him in about eight years. Maybe I'll just surprise him with a monthly check. :)

homework

I'm going to New York on the 5th to learn a thing or two from Seth Godin, author of Unleashing the Ideavirus and Permission Marketing. I'm pretty excited about it.

My homework between now and then: Tough questions...

competition

Dave has every right to feel this way, but I don't really understand the concept.
4. I look forward to Mitch's creation. I know better than most what he's capable of because I worked closely with him in the past, we learned from each other (maybe not enough of that) and competed. I have great respect for Mitch. But I also am concerned, like Don Park is, as any reasonable person should be, that it will be impossible to compete with Mitch. I don't like that idea.
Mitch is Mitch Kapor. He founded Lotus back in the day, and is now working on an open source personal information manager called Chandler that's meant to compete with Outlook.

This just doesn't worry me. I compete with free services every day. Movable Type and Blogger are free services. I compete with them, and so does Dave. But he doesn't compete with the Chandler project, so why is he concerned?

But he calls the concern reasonable... So maybe I'm just dumb.
