My mission statement says: "I will listen before I speak." My mission statement does not say "I will brush my teeth." It doesn't say "I will brush my teeth" because I already brush my teeth every day. It's not something I
have to aspire to. But sometimes my listening skills need work.
A couple weeks ago, I posted on the innercircle list that I was going to start building a blogging tool, and anyone who wanted to see how its done could watch me build it through my email updates. All told, I got about one response to that whole thread.
Why? Because I spoke before listening.
A couple days ago, I posted again on the innercircle list. This
time I asked people what the perfect blogging tool would
be like. Answers and ideas are pouring in! And you know
what? A lof of their ideas are better than my ideas.
One of the seven habits of highly effective people is: Seek first to understand, then to be understood. Translation: shut up and listen. :)
Update: Come to think of it, that applies to the previous
post too... I have an idea for helping bloggers make money.
I have no idea if other people would actually want to do it.
Guess I'd better ask.
mo' money blogging
Word on the net is that people want to blog for money. Well, duh.
But corporate sponsorship is not the right way for to make money
with a blog. It's not even a good way to make money for a business.
A banner ad on a blog simply doesn't have the same weight as the writer's normal links. Trust me. I've tried it.
I have a much better way for bloggers to earn money.
But I'm not telling.
Not yet, anyway. :)
