bad marketing juju

I think when I redesigned the cornerhost site, I made it too blog centric. My sales are down this month. I think they might also have been down last month if that newsletter hadn't recommended me. Time to change things around again... :)

someone to be....

He is slim and powerful. He knows his posture and focus determine his emotions, so moves and thinks with purpose. His stories can enchant an audience or capture a woman's heart. He thinks in tangents, sprouting chains of logic with surprising ends. Where others see nothing, he finds fortune. He admits mistakes humbly and adapts. He learns best from expert models -- whom he respects but never worships -- and he shares what he learns with others. When he gives his word, he keeps it. When he is needed, he is there.

an NLP story

Checking in on Tom and Kim, I found this:
It seems that one of the other attendees had brought their pet pit bull to the seminar that day and he she was in the room. This guy was terrified of pit bulls. He could not be in the room with one and was shaken quite badly by the surprise of one being there.

business plan

I wrote out my business plan for the next few months. It boils down to this: I realized while writing the full plan that there will always be more things I can automate and improve. And since that's one of my strongest skills, I know that I can always handle the load - either by doing things myself, or hiring smart programmers.

I can talk to a programmers and tell if they're worth their salt, but when it comes to marketing, I'm clueless. I do my best to write persuasive copy, but I'm not a marketing machine. I need a Seth or a Sergio... Or just a natural born salesperson like Laura or Zach.

Could I learn to be as good at marketing as these people? You bet! But my heart isn't in it. I want to be more outgoing in life, but not for a living. I'd rather play to my strengths: thinking strategically about the business, overseeing operations, and developing new technology.

Eventually, I'll hand operations over to someone else, too. But the first person I hire will be my head of marketing.
